The Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem is an international, historical, charitable organization that espouses the values of the historical Knights of Lazarus. Neither the United Grand Priory nor any of the national Grand Priories claims to be a continuation of the original Order of Lazarus. The United Grand Priories traces its roots to the founding of the United Grand Priories in 1995 (where the South Africa Grand Priory was one of the three founding members). Since then, branches (Grand Priories) have been established in more than 40 countries.

Living a life of service is a meaningful life. If you want to make a difference, or are already making a difference in your community, city, country, or indeed the world, and you want to be part of something greater than yourself, reach out to us.

The Current Grand Prior of South Africa is H.E. Steven Groeneveld, GCLJ, GCMLJ, who is also the Grand Secretary of the United Grand Priories, the international mother organization.

The Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem is the modern-day embodiment of a distinguished past that will endure for all ages. The spirit of that work, many centuries ago, can still be seen in the order’s modern efforts.

If you want to contribute to a worthy cause that helps some of the most vulnerable individuals on this planet, and you are looking for an organization that is about more than giving money, this organization may be for you.

The charitable work here is being performed under the banner of one of the most interesting, historical, and proud organizations of the past thousand years.

Not everyone will become a Knight or Dame in this organization. You should not join this organization if that is your goal!

Why Join the Order of St. Lazarus?

Each year, thousands of people directly benefit from or are directly assisted by the Order of Saint Lazarus’ members.

This organization is about more than charity, though charity is the order’s most essential work. The order is also a network of established individuals from all professions who enjoy the camaraderie, the sharing of ideas, and the spirit that a strong organization is greater than the sum of its parts.

Join this organization if you want to make a positive impact on people’s lives, including your own.

We invite you to apply to this organization so we can explore how we can work together on an excellent and noble cause.
